EDGE SOUNDTRACK

culture_ electronic_ music_ scifi_ synth

2 tracks from a dope little iPhone game called ‘Edge‘ sounding like some vintage early 80’s library music with touches of that ‘Boards of Canada’ style treatment — no surprise then that the games’ soundtrack composers are all French, drawing on their rich electronic heritage. More tracks here. Thanks to Manny for the heds up.

Simon Pèrin — Eternity

Richard Malot — Quiet

ACTRESS — PURPLE SPLAZSH

electronic_ music_ synth

It’s been out a couple of weeks, and it’s sounding seriously heavy. Sonically pushing it to the next level Actress’s new LP ‘Splazsh’ has been well worth the wait (he’s also put out a sweet little 12″ on Non-Plus that needs checking)

As the title suggests, the tune I’m posting heavily references/samples the Purple one, but with Actress’s moody techno funk edge. Feel it.

WAVE FUNK

man from atlantis_ music_ synth

This is a tune been meaning to post for a little while, and if you’ve cheked it already, you’ll know it sits sweetly in the mix as part of Man from Atlantis’s Deep Freq Odyssey. Sounding like some lost electro/funk classic it is in fact a nu skool production from DMX Krew – signed to Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label amongst others, more info here. Not sure about the outro but the first two thirds is pure vocodered funk goodness.

Rebirth on the iPhone

Oh yeah!

ReBirth for the iPhone
, which if nothing else is a big step towards Reason for the iPad.

You could probably bash out yesterday’s freaky friday post on the way to work.

Welcome to the Phuture.

ACTRESS

When it comes to new music there really aren’t that many cats out there who are doing it for me. But when you start to break away from the dominant scenes, it’s good to know you can still find people like Actress just doing their thing.

He can come down on the more dissonant electronic side, which isn’t really my vibe, but he did a dope mix on FACT last year which hit all the right spots; a little bit of boogie, electro instrumentals and the freaky funk side of 80’s new wave — influences u can hear in the tune I’m posting here.

He’s got a new LP out on Honest Jon’s later in the Spring, you can hear a few snippets on there now which are sounding quite hard edged, let’s hope he puts the funk back in.

OP-1 Kenobi

I’m loving Teenage Engineering’s soon-to-be-released OP-1 .

If nothing else, they have absolutely nailed the product design.

Analog Soul

Although probably better known for his 1983 killer Polyphase-I’ve always had a softspot for this Aaron Broomfield track. “I’m Gonna Miss You” has it all, killer hook, amazing groove and just the right amount of synthed out flavour to keep give it an edge. It really is analog soul at it’s finest and one of those tracks that you think about editing but  the more you listen to it, the less you realise you have to add.

Saying that, if I ever end up in a 6 piece retro 80 funk band (wearing way too much skin tight purple nylon) then this would be always on the set list.

Oh and you can check the video here, in all it’s vhs glory.

(gotta to get me one of those suits.)

SYNTHESIST

synthesistPosted this a while back on FM 2.0, heard it again the other day & thought it deserves a re-up. Cosmic heds will know it & all those who checked Man From Atlantis’s ‘Odyssey’ mixtape, a spaced-out classic from 1980.
