TRON DISC GAME

music_ quaid_ scifi

No it’s not some new Quaid concept mix sleeve art, but a chance to geek out over some Tron Legacy costume promo shots.

But speaking of Quaid & promo’s, he’s currently mixing down the first couple of tracks from his forthcoming Metropolis project: ‘Adonis Blu’ & ‘Futura (love theme from Metropolis)’ both to be released digitally as part of a Metropolis promo package.

There may even be a short film to go with it…we’ll keep u posted.

THE DEEP RANGE 04

mixtapes_ music_ quaid

Quaid’s taken some time off working on his forthcoming ‘Metropolis’ project to bring us the latest installment in his ‘Deep Range’ mixtape series. Over the last couple of years he’s tended towards concept-led mixes, but this set is much more about touching down across-the-board than following a single theme.

Expect to hear UK future funk alongside some lost classics plus beats new & old from Detroit’s finest and of course those signature Quiad flourishes.

Tracklisting after the bump.

SCI—FI SOUL

music_ quaid_ scifi

Aside from the cosmic b-boy musings of ‘Reflections…’ Quaid is perhaps best well known, on these pages at least, for his ongoing love affair with soulful electronic music — citing the big ‘D’ and some of it’s visionary residents as a major influence. Sci—Fi Soul is a term Quaid uses to describe his music, not just because of his Sci-Fi obsession but more blatantly from sampling such classic scores as Gill Mellé’s ‘Andromeda Strain’ & Lalo Schifrin’s ‘THX 1138′.

But whether it’s the Gilles Peterson-championed body music of ‘Feel’, the synth-funk of ‘Raw Shit’ or collaborative pieces with vocalist’s like Nigerian soul-boy Ade on ‘City on Fire’, Quaid’s aesthetic remains the same – raw, emotive electronic music.

This is an ongoing project, so we’ll be adding more back catalogue, edits and new material in the coming weeks, hope ur feeling it.

RAW SHIT

ting2

Gonna be launching the Firemusic online store in the next few weeks, where you’ll be able to buy exclusive music as both mp3’s and wavs. First up will be the super heavy LP from Reflections on Creation & Bass, then music from the rest of the family: Unified Theory, Ulysses 82 and the back catalogue of a certain Mr J. Quaid.

We’ll be keeping prices as low as possible — this isn’t about some bullshit business model — but if your feeling what we post on this site, u can get it in on a straight-from-the mastering studio format — we’ll also be doing limited runs of special edition CDs (& maybe even some vinyl).

And as ever we’ll keep posting the exclusives here, but at the store you’ll get them at their proper bitrate.

Taken from his latest mix ‘Memories of the Future‘ Quaid’s downright filthy ‘Raw Shit’ (standby for Quaid’s ‘Metropolis’ project coming in 2010)

Quaid — Memories of the Future

Quaid returns with more music from Detroit’s finest. Where his previous mix had a strictly afterhours aesthetic, this set pushes a rawer electronic sound that inescapably feels more dancefloor friendly.

Referencing both the music’s origins (the metallic techno funk of Juan Atkins) and the latest innovators (Omar S’s dissonant soul) Quaid presents a retro-futuristic vision of music from and inspired by the Motor Cities continuing legacy.

Quaid — Hand Raised by Robots

robots

This is the re-imagined soundtrack to a Sci-Fi noir classic. One where ‘Deckard’ fronts a covert troupe of Replicant producers, searching for their soul in the rain swept neon underground.

Dedicated to the ‘D’.

QUAID VS KUBRICK

quaid_ scifi

lovefromthesun2001

This one’s been brewing for a while. J Quaid’s huge ‘Love From The Sun’ set against the timeless cosmic visuals of Kubrick’s ‘Stargate’ sequence from 2001. Heavy.
