THE DEEP RANGE 04
mixtapes_ music_ quaid
Quaid’s taken some time off working on his forthcoming ‘Metropolis’ project to bring us the latest installment in his ‘Deep Range’ mixtape series. Over the last couple of years he’s tended towards concept-led mixes, but this set is much more about touching down across-the-board than following a single theme.
Expect to hear UK future funk alongside some lost classics plus beats new & old from Detroit’s finest and of course those signature Quiad flourishes.
Tracklisting after the bump.

Attack Of The Krystal Sphere
mixtapes

Love this mix.
Krystal Klear, who is going to massive this year (12″ dropping on All City in April) and Illium Sphere bringing together an awesome selection of boogie and 80’s funk bullets.
It draws on loads of the same influences and grooves behind the Ulysses 82 stuff, even down to using some tracks we have jacked.
What’s especially nice is the way they have cut up the boogie to keep the groove and lose the dodgy major key middle eights (of which there are usually freakin loads in this genre)
Krystal Klear is playing there in April-you should really try and get there.
Check out the hoya hoya blog for more info.
Here’s the mix

DOPE ON PLASTIC
clubs_ mixtapes_ music
Bangin’ session at Plastic People last night, full props to Alex Nut, Floating Points & the rest of the spinners. Heard a solid selection of new skool joints, but the real highlight for me came from a 20 minute rotation of Golden Era Hip Hop classics. Not the obvious selections you’d get on some lame compilation but the real deal.
Much like this killer set from Jez at Innersounds. Posted this in our previous incarnation, but long overdue a re visit.

Cloudy City Funk
mixtapes_ music
With upcoming releases for Dam Funk, Ad Bourke and Rozzi Daime, Citinite are clearly on the verge of massive things. Their blueprint for 21st century funk not only sounds lightyears ahead of the competition, but increasingly feels like the natural inheritor to the legacy of underground, electronic music set out over the last 30 years by freaks with synths in Chicago, Detriot, Minneapolis and wherever else .
Next month they are hosting a party with LuckyMe at the Lightbox (an amzing looking club in Vauxhall with thousands of LEDs embeddded in the walls !!!). It promises to be one of the parties of the year and a primer (for anyone interested) in what the future sounds like.
If you can’t wait that long, Manni has put together a mix packed full of exclusive unreleased killers (tracklisting below the jump)
I can’t think of any thing else that comes as close to collectively sounding like the music Prince would be making if he still had something to prove.
