Yo Mama’s First Birthday

edits_ ulysses82

It’s been a while, but after an extended summer break, Ulysses82 are back in the game.
We will be joining Riki, Sammy and the boys at Catch on Kingsland Road this Saurday to celebrate a year of dancefloor sweat, the highest quality party music and widly inappropiate whiteboy swagger. With main man 7oel and CWD also in the mix this is going to be a ceiling bashing, party freaking MONSTER of a session.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the YO MAMA parties have been some of the most enjoyable gigs we have ever played. There is something about the dark, slightly scuzzy venue, packed full of people who are only interested in getting a sweat on that encapsulates everything a Saturday night should be about.

There is a Yo Mama mix over at LDNNEZ if you need to get in the mood early and rather than turn up to the party empty handed, here is a super exclusive Ulysses82 track which we was originally put together specifically for the night and is directly inspired by the music the boys were playing.

See you on the dancefloor.

Ulysses 82 on Radio 1 !!!!!.

Me and christophe are craziliy over-excited about this-what a great way to start the year.

Big thanks to Danny aka Red Rack’em, who is seemingly destined for ever greater heights this year.

Catch him at the Vibe bar on the 13th, and listen to the full show here.

Bringing the cheap heat since 1982.

AIB’s First Birthday

Thursday is the Ain’t it Black 1st birthday party at Favela chic.

It’s gonna be a monster session. A celebration of an amazing year of finding new music and making new friends.  There’s live music from Olivier DaySoul and the usual cut price/fully loaded, high fiving deejays.

Come down, if you’re local. Rumours abound of some crazy-assed fancy dress costumes (“just call me snake”) and what with the usual insane dancefloor antics and the friendliest crowd in the east there’s sure to be a lot of love in the room.

To celebrate here is an exclusive Ulysses82 edit fresh from my hard drive.

It’s been a great year!!

It’s Ain’t it Black tonight at the vibey (but ever sketchy) Favela chic, Great Eastern St.

Expect the usual synth heavy 80s funk and electro selection from 7oel, Food Soundsystem and me and christophe.

I’m in a ‘wishing I was still on holiday’ kind of mood so just as well I’m on early (thinking a moody-downbeat-electro set could be in order)

It’s always a killer session and with a live set from Jason Jermaine this could be the one that takes it next level.

Sometimes we take a track and really funk it up, this is just case of cutting out the chaff. It’s obviously a classic funk track, but does it really need 2 and half minutes of guitar solo?

I thought not.

Twin Hype

edits

When you are as singular in your approach to a certain kind of groove as we are at basilika towers, there is a danger that the cut ends up going too deep, too dubbed out. That in trying to highlight the ‘good stuff’ you end not leaving enough room for a track to breathe. The magnificent Danny Krivit has certain golden rules concerning edits, one of which is to ensure to leave enough contrast and variety within a track as it’s sometimes the lack of a groove that gives a track the highs and lows to make it a classic.

Of course I ignored all that with this cut.

It’s all the bass and synth and dubbed out fx with everything else left on the side.

Christophe and I are down at favela chic tomorrow-glance to the right-.
It’s gonna be a serious selection of synths, electro, vocoders and air bass classics

Was amazing last time-formation dancing/killer tunes/really freaky crowd.

As ever it will be the ulysses 82 exclusives we will be most excited about playing.

Here’s one from last time.

We’re slowly getting our myspace together (ish). You can check us at

And while we’re on the subject of linkage, take a look a ‘Those City Nights’ which features a peerless selection of heavy electro and indepth features like this one on one time Prince associate Andre Cymone.

Puts less thorough blogs to shame.

Deadlock

Contract negotiations got off to a rocky start this weekend with the bar’s management accusing christophe le funk of ‘pulling a j-lo’ after initial requests for boxing-style introductions upon entering the venue were rejected out of hand. Turning up to the meeting wearing his paper mache ’superfly-weight’ champion of the world belt was probably the step too far, even for him.

The meeting went from bad to worse with christophe detailing his idea of turn the deejay booth in a ‘hot tub with waterproofed dj equipment’, complete with two scantily clad ‘towel girls’ to be ‘on hand’ at all times.

Chrisophe didn’t help his case by refusing to take off his shades and by insisting on talking in a barely audible whisper (and fake texan accent) and by wearing a ‘wildly inappropriate’ apache indian costume.

At this time the management have decided to decline all requests ‘with extreme prejudice’.

Time to play hardball.

Could be our last gig at the elbows for a while, (depending on how those pay negotiations turn out-I think christophe asking for his own personal ‘talc dwarf’ might be the rider request too far). Which would (kinda) be a shame cause they have really started to warm up in recent months. Oh well, new year is always a good time to make some changes. We’re playing from 9-2. The usual selection of synth heavy 80’s funk and boogie, with a good few curve balls thrown in there just for kicks.

Here’s one we prepared earlier.

So here’s a little edit to warm your weekend.

It’s been a rediculously busy couple of months. We’ve taken in stag do’s, house moves, DJ tours (more on that soon), weddings and the monumental incompetance of Messers B & T, who have managed to leave me without te Internets for a month and counting. The peckerheads.

What’s certainly clear is that however accomplished my multi-tasking is, it didn’t stretch to posting as well. However, this does mean that there’s now a glut of ULYSSES82 re-edits in the pipeline, watch this space over the coming few days/weeks as I get round to sticking them up.

Tomorrow Jaksoul et moi will be suiting up and spinning the wheels of steel at The Elbow Room in Shoreditch. I for one can’t wait – my recordbox is stocked like a frickin Trout Pond. If you fancy joining us, we’d love to see you.

Here’s one to share, again on the ‘it’s a classic but I never play it out so I’ve re-jigged it so’s that I do’ theme. Phew.

Have a great weekend
Christoph
