REST IN PEACE GIL
music
Like a lot of cats my first experience of Gil was with ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’. A heavyweight classic, always will be. But as the years rolled on and I discovered more & more of his music, it was the sheer depth and honesty of his work that really got me, and deeply resonated. Saw him live at the Phoenix festival back in the mid-90′s where his hour long set just pretty much consisted of ‘The Bottle’. At the time I don’t think I truly appreciated what I was seeing & hearing, but looking back I feel blessed to have seen him and witnessed something so special.
Remember watching this doc, and it really opened up another side to Gil for me. If you haven’t checked it then it’s well worth a watch. We’ve lost not just a great musician, but a great speaker of truths, a great voice of dissent and ultimately I guess a great narrator of our times. Rest in Peace Gil.
