Out in Hong Kong at the moment, a city that never fails to inspire me — particularly if your turned on by neon lit streets and an ever present vertical backdrop of futuristic skyscrapers. The whole experience was heightened last night with a typhoon induced downpour that made the seedy streets of Kowloon feel very much like the source material for Syd Mead’s Blade Runner concept art.
It makes me want to listen to music like Patrick Pulsinger’s ‘Citylights Part 2′. A track that came out in ’94 but still feels relevant 15 years later, sounding as heavy on Quaid’s ‘Hand Raised by Robots’ mixtape as it did back in the day on the Third Floor, a sure sign of quality. Like his other big tune of the era ‘Claire’ there’s a strong Detroit influence at work here, easing his methodical production style along with the right amount of soulfulness.
Incidentally there’s a new Quaid mixtape ‘Metropolis’ on the way, but in the meantime feel this.
